The State Finals kicked off yesterday with the 16 qualifiers from the boys' competition; Glen Eira Comets met Box Hill United in the final, the boys were fortunate enough to play the game at the exclusive City Football Academy Elite Field. The game was a brilliant display of attractive football from two very well coached teams.

Both teams did everything they could to score, however neither of them could find the back of the net during normal play. Extra time was no different and the boys show loads of determination in what was their 5ht match of the day. It ended up 0-0 after extra time and it was decided by a penalty shootout. Box Hill United edged out Glen Eira Comets 4-2. Glen Eira's Magnus Lopez was awarded the Golden Ball and player of the tournament.

Today it was the girls' turn to shine with the 6 qualifying teams battling it out for the Macca's City Cup 2018, the quality football displayed by the girls was very impressive as FC Bulleen and Roxburgh Park United advanced to the final.

It was Roxburgh who took the early lead via a great team goal and they were looking as if they would go all the way, FC Bulleen displayed the grit and determation they have shown throughtout the tournament and equalised from the spot kick.

The second half saw the Roxburgh goalkeeper make some great saves as she was the busier of the two keepers, in the end FC Bulleen took the lead late in the game and ended up winning the final 2-1.

FC Bulleen's Lara Aitken took out the player of the tournament award.
